2008 Alaska Pilgrimage

On Friday, August 15, Joe, Matt, Julie, Jody, Janie, Art, and Martin set off from RDU to begin their journey to Craig, Alaska.

Where is Craig? Craig is a small town on Prince of Wales Island, one of Alaska’s southernmost islands.

Why Craig? Craig is the home of Anchor Baptist Church, a ministry run by the Foster family. We visit Craig every year or two to strengthen our relationship with the people in the church and community and help the church with its summer VBS program.

Why a pilgrimage? Most people think of a pilgrimage as a trip to a holy site, such as a Muslim travelling to Mecca or a Catholic visiting Lourdes. On our pilgrimages, we try to emphasize not the destination but the journey. The trip is less about where the group is going or what project it’s working on and more about leaving the distraction of everyday life, stepping out of comfort zones, and trying to draw closer to God.

Check back for updates on how the group is doing!
